Employers or businesses, or anyone who falls under the definition of a ‘person conducting a business or undertaking’ (a PCBU), has legal obligations under work health and safety laws.
If there is a serious injury or illness, a death or a dangerous incident, you must report it to state’s safe work office as soon as possible.
You must also notify your brand’s work safety officer and workers compensation insurer within 48 hours.
Penalties apply for not notifying incidents. The maximum penalty for failing to notify is $50,000 for a body corporate and $10,000 for an individual.
